John Jantach from Duct Tape Marketing makes a good point in his post "Stop Reading and Start Copying." Books, magazines, classes, and blogs are great for picking up new approaches and skills. They become important and valuable only when observations translate to action.
When was the last time you changed the way you managed/worked as a result of guidance from an expert, mentor/coach, or business writer?
Our individualized "call to action" triggers go off when something both clicks and causes dissonance - when the "Ah ha" and "Oh shit" moments collide in a glorious rush of intrinsic motivation. It's a cool thing to experience and we will each find what we need in different places.
I experienced an intrinsic call to action after reading this posting by Evelyn Rodriquez of Crossroads Dispatches. Powerful stuff.
