Great and Right Project Management

It is important to ensure that each project is the right work and the best possible use of time and energy. Focusing on managing each project's implementation independently will fail if either the projects are ill-conceived or add up to more than 100% of capacity (this is common).

I use something called a great and right filter. The filter has two tests that every potential task or project must pass. First, does this task represent a great thing to do? Many tasks are great tasks, but be picky about your criteria for "great."

For all great tasks, apply the second test. Is this task the right use of resources and time relative to all other options and the overall capacity? It is critical to be very tough when determining if a task is both great and right. Few things meet this criteria - just the 20% that will get you the 80% of results.
