At last someone who shares my views on incentives. I have always believed that people work hard because they get paid to do a job. The idea that I will only work to the best of my ability if there is an extra reward at the end is ludicrous. I believe everyone should be paid a good salary for doing a good job and be rewarded with a salary increase and promotion.

I have frequently watched companies make promises regarding incentives, which were never realised, and I suspect were never going to be realised. I currently work for a company as an office manager. I was offered a salary £3k lower than the salary I was making at the time and assured that I would benefit from a £5k increase once we secured our first client which was imminent. Eight months later I have still not received the £5k and there is still no sign of a client. The company is a start-up software house. Consequently I am de-motivated and currently looking for another job.

I have just stumbled across this site today and I must say I find it very stimulating.

The cats and dogs analogy post was hilarious! BTW good luck Glenny in finding a new job ;)
