Yesterday's post reviewed portions of my discussion with Guy Kawasaki and a few days ago, I wrote about what Guy calls Bozo Explosions. I asked Guy how one knows if THEY are a bozo? Here is his answer:

1. We are all bozos. Our degree of bozocity (Guy's term) will be different depending on the task.
2. To be successful, we need to be self-aware enough to know in which disciplines we excel and where we are bozos.
3. We should then do what we are good at and leave the rest to others.

Sounds simple, but we often try to perform tasks where our bozocity is high. For example, I wasted too much time trying to lay out and deisgn my ebooks. I am a bozo when it comes to graphic design and now I contract this out and spend my precious time in ways that make more sense (and my ebooks look great!).

So a bozo explosion occurs when several people are put in roles outside of their strengths (where their bozocity is high). Hiring an A Player, then, means hiring the person who is a great fit for the job.
