That's a very complete checklist of ways to get the ideas flowing to the maximum.

I particularly support the point about DIVERSITY. Another way of encouraging diversity is that Edward de Bono idea about the 6 thinking hats. Encourage people to adopt the optimistic hat and the pessimistic hat so that they see different aspects of the problem. Get the whole group to realize that there's a blue hat - how is this process going. So it's a working session. Watch out for others who may be quiet, perhaps they have the best ideas, so involve them.

Barry - Thanks, yeah the 6 thinking hats is good stuff, too. I think anything that helps us see the situation through different lenses and filters is great. I have also used questions/statements like:

Tell me an idea I would never go for in a million years.
If we were ______ what ideas might we have (fill in any discipline or behavioral preference)?
I love thinking about the perspective of the competitors, too. Not because we should be copying or thinking like them, but asking the question may yield a couple good ideas and will help clarify how we are different.
