Productivity an Intrinsic Motivation?

Don over at Leadership Now offers this interesting post called, Innate Motivation.

Here is a nice quote from the post:

"What is the leadership lesson? Simply this. People have an irrepressible need to apply themselves. To give expression to their innate capabilities. To use their minds and talents no matter their circumstances."

Don also poses several thought provoking questions for managers and leaders to consider.

Productivity is such an ugly word, I wish there was an more elegant way of saying the same thing. Even so, I think we do have an innate desire to be productive.

Not in the, "I'm being timed and micromanaged by my annoying boss" sense of productivity.

But in the, "I made a difference and accomplished something today" sense of productivity.

As leaders, we need to enliven our team members' natural inclinations to do great work. Unfortunately, much of our traditional wisdom backfires, making our jobs more complex and important.

Let's call the innate, feel good kind of productivity choco-mojo (nothin' could be sweeter).
