IMHO, any one of these definitions, by itself, is suboptimal. Expertise should be defined as:


Subject matter knowledge (factual or fictional skill) X repeatable processes (practice, practice practice)

Time

Whether someone is willing to pay for expertise is a benefit, but not a requirement.

Skip - Sure I can see that your formula makes sense, but who then says at what point all this comes together? It's still made up in conversation, right?
