Blog Recruiting began about two years ago within a Technical recruiting team at Microsoft. It was an idea by two recruiters named Gretchen Ledgard and Zoe Goldring. I am not certain but I think it was actually the first job related blog by Microsoft employees. It exceeded all expectations and has since expanded its writer base.

Zoe Goldring ended up taking a recruitment position with another company in a different industry and left Microsoft at the beginning of 2005.

However, the success of this blog and the success of other Microsoft employee blogs, including recruiting blogs, led Microsoft to realize that blog recruiting should be viewed as marketing. Gretchen Ledgard was promoted from being a recruiter to being a Marketing Manager within Microsoft's Staffing organization. The original blog is still very active and is available at: http://blogs.msdn.com/jobsblog/

James - That's cool to know, thanks. Recruiting is often about marketing. If you want to find top talent, you need to market your company as being a premier employer. Rock stars have options.
