I was reading the May 2006 issue of Money magazine on the plane. There's a great article with the best options for investing $5,000. It covers a lot of options and I recommend you check it out. There is a shortened version online here.
Bill and I have been working on how to be more strategic and smart about our money and investments (please, no financial planning SPAM). For us, diversifying in smaller chunks, like $5,000-$10,000, makes a lot of sense and allows for an optimal mix of liquidity and returns (with the exception of our retirement funds, which we tend to put in longer term investiment options in larger chunks).
Great, great, article.
