This past Tuesday, I was part of a panel discussion for the Puget Sound ASTD chapter. The topic was using blogs to enhance training and development (or your training business). With me on the panel were four of my favorite Seattle business bloggers:
Curt Rosengren - The Occupational Adventure (for the category of career development)
Lori Richardson - Sales Coach and Score More Sales (for the category of sales/revenue generation)
Lynn Gaertner-Johnston - Business Writing (for the category of writing and communication)
Fran Fisher - Powerful Conversations (for the category of coaching)
I handled the category of leadership and management. We each shared 9 blogs, podcasts or sites other than our own that we thought trainers ought to know about - together that's 50 great sites, the vast majority being blogs.
I have posted the list below for your reference. Because we each could only share a few, there are many of my favorite blogs NOT on this list. I currently read about 200 great blogs.
These are the 50 that we collectively think are highly relevant to trainers.
Cool news: Since the presentation on Tuesday, I have already gotten two emails from people who started new blogs as a result of the session. Both new blogs are from fun and smart professionals, so please check out their new blogs and add them to your reading list. Let's give them a little newby blogger love!

Lisa,
Great list and there are several blogs that I want to look at. Any chance you would provide an OPML file with the entire list that we could use to import into our various newsreaders?

Hi Lisa;
Thanks so much for listing my WhitePaperSource site. I also have a blog dedicated to writing white papers at http://www.writingwhitepapers.com/blog/

Skip - whoa nelly, you have spoken beyond my geekabilities - tell me what an OPML is and how to do it and I would be happy to indulge.
Mike - thanks for the link!

Thank you, Lisa - I'm proud to be associated with the awesome folks on this list.
Keep up all the awesome sharing that you do!

Wow Lisa, this is quite a list that I am VERY honored to be a part of. WOW! Thank you!
RE: OPML
Do do things via OPML would be to set up all the RSS feeds in an aggregator, and then exported them into an OPML file. This would allow people to import the feeds directly into their feedreader, and save them the time of going to enter each site individually. At least that's how I understand it, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm honored to be in such good company, and for the first and only time in my life I'm ahead of Tom Peters! I'm delighted that training folks are catching on and hope more of them not only join our ranks but realize the importance of new media in helping people do their jobs.
Thanks as always.

Brian - I had never heard of Pajama Market, so thanks for the link!

Hey, Lisa. Thank you for including Brazen Careerist on the list. I am intrigued by the way you broke down the categories. This is a good way to organize the blogs, and they are categories I wouldn't have necessarily used. But I like them, and in fact, when people ask me what my topic is, I think I will start quoting you when I answer :)

Lisa,
Phil is correct. Most newsreaders (I use Bloglines) allow you to export your list of feeds in this OPML format. Same goes with importing. I have used this feature when changing from newsreaders in the past.

Skip and Phil - Thanks for the tutorial on OPML. I don't think I will attempt this, however, because this list of 50 is not neccessarily what's in my aggregator. I have many favorites - like yours Skip, and Rosa's, and David's - that are not on this list. Also, not all of these are in my aggregator, because this is a combined list.
I hope it is not too much of a pain to subscribe to the sites that interest you.

Lisa, I found you through your link to me, and have stopped by to check out your blog a couple of times, and look forward to coming back some more.
I realized that I also hadn't said, thank you the link to Knee Deep under your coaching blogs!
