Gallup has produced some research that says that worker is more likely to be engaged if s/he has a "best friend" at work. It's up to the supervisor to create the atmosphere where those friendships can flourish and the team can also concentrate on getting the job done.

It can sometimes help to give the team a structure for their conversations. The Team Review at http://www.etaconsulting.co.uk can be very powerful.

Best wishes
