Todd, over at 1800CEOREAD offers this great post called, Five Business Book Classics - The Essay. Those five should certainly be on all our bookshelves. What, no cheese? (See below)
On a somewhat related note - books - Dwayne offers this review of a nontraditional business book, Leadership Secrets of the Rogue Warrior. The question I have is why does Dwayne have a rodent on the top banner of his blog and what is that thing is it about to eat? I think I need a new banner - or a banner at all - something amazing and existential. Someone make me a banner!
You gotta check out Cranky Wayne's Satan's Training Brochure, Fall 2007. Very funny. And while you are at it, check out his new e-book called, 4 Disciplines of Highly Effective, Leadership Exhibiting, Project Nailing, Cheese Moving Managers PLUS 100 Free Resources All Managers Need! The e-book has lots of great stuff packaged with Wayne's usual snappy wit and bottom line goodness. I love the "cheese moving managers" bit in the title. It's good to laugh, the 96 page cheese book (still #122 on Amazon 9 years after coming out) has only sold about a billion copies. Admit it, you have a copy of this book, don't you? I hear they are sending the royalty checks directly to the author's private island (it's bigger than Branson's).
And smart pal Jodee shows us the new cover for her book, The 100% Factor. I think that anytime a self-published book goes into a reprint, it shows a major accomplishment. It is so much harder to get the word out about indy books. You have to send boxes and boxes of Krispy Kremes to book distributors and Amazon.com (and Starbucks with the donuts for Amazon buyers). Congratulations, Jodee, and I love the new cover. Glass totally full!
Looking for something entirely different? Like, nowhere near the business book shelf? Head to your nearest independent bookstore (because the chains don't carry this stuff) and pick up the latest issue of The Believer - a nonfiction magazine/literary journal. That's what I am reading this week and the writing is blowing my mind. All of a sudden, even my edgiest stuff seems ordinary. Dissonance is good (she tells herself as she weeps into her pillow).

Thanks for the kind words about Satan's Training Brochure.. it's the second one I've written and just a blast to write...nothing like biting the hand that feeds you.... gently of course...no scars or proof they can take back to HR. Also thanks for mentioning the 4 Disciplines.... I blush at the kind words.
