Great Management Lessons from Ryan Allis. The title of the book is interesting indeed, "Zero to One Million".

Great list Ryan! If I had to sort your list, I'd put build relationships at the top of the list. It leads to so many of the other items in the list if it is done well and consistently. Its important to ensure you have steps in place for this each week (such as weekly one on one meetings) and frequent team building meetings and/or lunches.

"Commend more than you criticize" is something I value very much. I work in the software industry and too often within the boundary of deadlines come the criticism.

Ryan,

I have chosen this post for my weekly GreatManagement Inspirational Articles - The Best Advice From Around The Web. I love 'build relationships' - absolutely key.

hm, difficult. I agree with many of this issues, the problem is that you cannot always be friendly. There can be employees that you have to give a booster from time to time, there is not much to do about it...

I think the most important thing is to know how to handle who.

The article/post includes pertinent information that may cause you to reconsider what you thought you understood. The most important thing is to study with an open mind and be willing to revise your understanding if necessary. - William B. Doyle, http://www.wbdoyle.com/tsfls/

"Commend more than you criticize". Oi vey, if only! I worked in a retail store once and I absolutely hated working there. Not because the work was hard or that it was boring, but simply because everytime I got there, I was always harped upon about not doing this, or not doing this fast enough, or worse yet, why are you relaxing when there is work to be done? I swear.
