I was listening to a podcast featuring David Allen recently. He said that once you've written a to-do list for the 'big' things it's often harder to get the 'less important' items out of your head.

"100% feels much better than 95%" was a choice quote - where you've already got a huge list it seems overwhelming to keep adding an unknown number of extra items to it, but once you've got it all done it's all done.

I carry a notebook and pen with me everywhere now, and whenever a thought pops up I write it down - TV shows I want to watch, that song I heard, birthday present ideas... Then I can look through it when I have more time and do something useful.
