This is a wonderful post and should serve as a reminder to all managers and leaders (husbands and spouses, friends and family) the art of showing appreciation. I believe showing appreciation is an art, as Lisa points out in her blog, as too often we offer thanks without specifics. In doing so, our employees and loved ones quickly see through the hollowness of our expression.

Steven - I so agree about the obvious fakeness of something that is not genuine enough to be specific. If you find yourself uncomfortable about offering appreciation, you might not be really doing it!
